Our "class song" was "Climb Every Mountain." Oddly enough, I didn't know this was our class song until graduation!

I don't think it was our "class song" UNTIL graduation. I remember that we, as a class, wanted to sing something at graduation and we (or possibly the Penningtons) came up with "Climb Every Mountain". "No Man is an Island" seems to stick out in my memory, also, Anyone else remember?

It started out as "No Man is An Island" and that was Mr. Arnold's choice. Not sure how it evolved into "Climb Every Mountain" except for the popularity of the song and the movie.
I was the accompanist for the choruses and was "sort of" involved in the process.

The tune is from the march "Independentia." On the BHS Facebook page there's a video of some former band folks playing the song. I was in the band from 1960-61 to partway through 1963-64.

Mimi - think of you and your Dad everytime I pass Clairmont Presbyterian Church taking my Mom to visit a friend across from the VA. Hope I can make it to the renunion.
I, too, have been thinking of Mary and Carol ever since I saw their names on the deceased list. Mary and I went to first grade together (and I do mean the first day we walked into the room together - Mrs. Seegraves' class). Carol became my friend soon after. It hurts that they are gone!

We know that Mary died of cancer but not sure what type. It was a very aggressive type. We do not know what happened to Carol.
Glad we are starting to post some current pictures so the we can recognize each other at the reunion. Hard to believe but after 50 years, we have changed a bit!!

I wonder if our old class president Dwight James will remember that next year will be 50 years since he was elected? We have been unsuccessful in tracking him down. Anybody got an idea how to locate him?

Tell him to try the brisket and grilled meatloaf. Just ask Shelton Stevens about the grilled meatloaf as he has been cooking it for Sunday family dinners . Your sister told me you have the shingles, I hope you have gotten well by now. We listed a house on lake Burton
with her not even knowing it was your sister until we got to talking
about where we went to High School

Hey, Donnie,
I wrote the cookbook to help our Church in Houston raise money for mission trips. It's 200 pages long and has some of my favorite recipes. It has everything from appetizers to breads to meats to vegetables to grilled meats to desserts, etc. To get a copy, please contact Memorial Drive Christian Church at 713-789-0060 or mdccdoc@earthlink.net. ( I think that's still the email address.) The Church secretary will be glad to help you. I hope you will be at the reunion. We need to catch up! Gary

Well I remember the alma mater words and the tune. As I recall the tune is the old Welsh anthem "The Men of Harlech", which featured in the 1964 movie Zulu. Look it up and enjoy the clip.
My great friend Bobby Seitz died just after our 40th reunion, cancer of course, that's what also took Paul Hauser, another good friend. It is sad to see our classmates gone.
Thanks to all who are organizing.

I was wondering about Bpbby and Paul. Paul married (then divorced) my cousin Dianne Dunagen, Class of 66. Looks like the Big C has made its way through the class. I had my bout with it in 2011 (my lost year) but luckily we caught it early and it was operable. I didn't know until earlier this year when I got involved with a non profit here in Nashville that the survival rate for Pancreatic Cancer was 6%. Still relying on luck after all these years. I will try to find a recent photo and get it posted. Looking at the pix and reading the blog brings back many memories. As my Pop used to say, "my 16 year old mind doesn't realize my body is 60 something."
Looking forward to seeing y'all next summer.

I was surprised - and happy - to learn that someone was organizing a 50th class reunion for Briarcliff H.S.! I was on the yearbook committee, and ironically, my yearbook was lost years ago.
My hat is off to the "sleuths" who are finding classmates! I was on that "lost" list, and Terry Earwood forwarded your message to me.

Glad to find this site. I am looking forward to the reunion also. Can't believe it has been 50 years--seems like yesterday?? These months fly by now like weeks--certainly didn't do that when I was in school. I have stayed in touch with Ana Lynn Plunkett Witherington and Barbara Castleberry Johnson. I did not know about Carol Waggle passing away. Also, Nancy Chapman was in the class of 1964. Can't wait to see everyone in September!

When I looked through all the pictures I had of my family etc. to download a picture on the new picture page of this website, I realized I didn't have one picture of me with my three daughters and my seven grandchildren together. We all live far from each other--my oldest is in IN with four of my grandchildren. My youngest is in WV with my two granddaughters and my middle daughter is the closest in Augusta, GA with one son but none of the pictures included everyone so I just put one single of myself at my wedding on June 20, 2009 when Ed and I got married in my back yard. I so wish he was still alive to come with me to this reunion as he had such a wonderful personality and would have loved to see my classmates. He was a good Marine who went to Vietnam on two tours and received two purple hearts. To anybody who went to Vietnam I don't need to say anything else. Looking so forward to seeing everyone and getting updates on all.
